To begin with a disclaimer, I don't really read much...I typically prefer film. I haven't read a fictional novel in years. That said, despite being in the middle of the work week, I just read Villain's Assistant in less than 2 days! The story had me hooked from the start, the characters come to life and the vivid descriptions bring this world clearly into focus. This has all the makings of being the next classic for younger readers, but has the complexity to entertain readers of all ages. Not only am I frustrated in my inability to pick up book 2, with my preference for binge-watching, I'm doubly discouraged that it will take time for this to hit the big screen. Loved it...thanks for getting me reading again! Now...when do we get the rest of the trilogy?!?!Product details

The Villain's Assistant is an engaging and entertaining book that keeps you guessing to the very end. The author draws you into Benjamin's adventures from the first chapter and leaves you satisfied-yet still wanting more-as the book comes to an end.
The characters are well developed in the story with detailed description and plot development. The reader is able to immerse himself into the kingdom of Lam and Thieves' Plane and follow Benjamin on his emotional, physical, and mental journey to discover himself.
As an adult reader with interests in fantasy, supernatural, and dystopian books, I was not able to put the book down. This book is also appropriate for middle/high school students as well. My 7th grader is starting on this book already and enjoying it too!
I look forward to reading more about the "Villains" in the next two books of the series.
I was given a hardcopy for an honest review
A fantastic tale of Villains that will have you guessing until the end. I loved the struggles the Benjamin Black must go through. He has an interesting character arc. The other many colorful characters bring the story to life. It hard to write a review without giving too much away. Benjamin has his life all planned out but when he meets a stranger on a road he makes a choice that puts him in the middle of the biggest conflict the Thieves’ Plain. When you think you know what's going on the truth spins Benjamin around again. I'm on the look out for book two.
I loved this book! It keeps you hooked the whole time. It is definitely a hard book to put down. I can't wait for the next one!
Unique storyline moves the reader along. This book had me thinking more than once. Most important, its a read you can't put down.
I really loved this book. I got hooked right away and couldn't put it down. The characters are brought to life at the very beginning and the story line keeps you wanting more. Can't wait for the next two books.
I couldn't put this book down! I was drawn to the characters and it really picked up speed toward the end with a nice dose of woman power. Great story and characters with some action that included a cliff hanger at the end, while still resolving some points as well. I also enjoyed some surprises along the way. Excited for the release of book 2!
I knew how talented Carley was but, wow!
The story is woven with well written multifaceted complexity and spirit. You relate with the tenacity and stubbornness of Rebecca. You relate to the life choices of Benjamin and the complexity they add to his life.
At the end you are hungry for what happens next in their story! Well done Carley! Well done!
